There isn't a better time of the year than Christmastime. Here's the message I chose for the Christmas cards I sent out this year. The main text is in Spanish and on the top half of the card -in much smaller print- is the English translation. The front of the card reads "Gloria a Dios en las Alturas" / "Glory To God In The Highest" Here's the main text: "¡La luz del Amor Divino brille siempre en su camino y les brinde en la Navidad paz, cariño y felicidad! Amor y Buena Voluntad en esta Santa Navidad" "May the light of God's love always shine on your path and may this Christmas bring you peace, affection and happiness! Love and Goodwill at this Holy Christmastime" Now, even though I am not an overly religious person, I am definitely an overly kind person, especially for a guy -- always have been. The way I see it, there is never a better time than Christmastime to be overly religious and overly kind, not only with the people you love a lot -- but with everyone you can. While I have the highest regard for those who are as religious or overly religious after Church services as they are while they are actually inside the Church -- I cannot help but think about those who are one way in Church and a very different way almost the second they leave Church services. We all know people who like to present themselves as one type of person but are in actuality someone very different. That's not to say that the best people can always live up to being the best all the time -- no one can. All I am saying is that it's good to TRY being the same GOOD person while inside Church as it is when services are over. No one knows better than I do how difficult that can be. Being and doing GOOD is the key -- after all, there is a difference of only one "o" in God and good -- at least in English. I haven't been to Church in 8 years now -- but I try to do everything I can the correct way -- just as if I did attend Church on a weekly basis -- the way I was taught by my parents and family and the way God supposedly wants ALL OF US to behave. While I definitely believe in God and love God, I find myself trying all the time to figure out why he does half the things he does. I do not EVER give up TRYING to be a good person, a great person and the very best person I can be for myself and others. TRYING is the key word -- I am NOT always successful -- but I DO always TRY. It's not too much to EXPECT everyone to go through their lives with the same attitude. Luckily the overwhelming majority of people do. Unfortunately too many DO NOT! That's the ONLY reason there are problems in the world -- ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE in the world. It's easy to love and be loved when you are genuinely happy with yourself, your life and with the people in your life. The problem is that there are TOO MANY people who aren't so fortunate. The best thing we can do helping others during Christmastime is to do it even when it isn't Christmastime. According to the altavista.com foreign-language translator, the Spanish word "dad" translates into "you give." The truth is, the more YOU GIVE -- the more YOU GET. You will NEVER see ANYONE, NOT ONE PERSON, who is constantly helping others in a small way, a big way or anyway they can having and/or living a life for themselves that is less than THE VERY BEST life. The first and ONLY real key to being successful in LIFE is to become a big part of as MANY LIVES as you possibly can, taking into consideration the time and money you have available to MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE -- And by NEVER letting those who have taken the Christ out of their own Christmases get in your way. SCRUTINY = REALITY. You can never fail at anything you set out to accomplish as long as you accomplish everything you set out to fail at. In other words, DREAM BIG! Well, that's all folks! Until next Friday. Keith For motivational speeches, conferences, media requests and other things such as eating disorders, you'll have to contact someone else. My only qualifications for writing a weekly column are based solely upon having a lot of free time, unlimited Internet access and very little else. |
