For whatever reason, when the United States is being run by a Republican president, there seems to be an awful lot of worldwide attention, disapproval, disgust and -- at least with George W. Bush -- plenty of the usual contempt and hatred. Whether or not the criticism is completely valid or completely absurd is irrelevant. When the United States actually does mess things up or gets something VERY wrong, the worldwide scrutiny has a way of forcing things to get better, fast. This occurs when the criticism is valid -- not when a Republican president is blamed for everything under the sun he clearly has no control over. The media, citizens, community organizations, etc., seem to thrive and work at full-throttle when a Republican president holds office. If the crime rate is too high, if too many kids are "reproducing" a lot more than just CDs and DVDs on their computers, specific groups of people are NOT being treated equally, not hired for a real job and/or paid the same fair wages they deserve or someone's civil rights are being violated -- things have a way of improving with editorials and commentaries published and broadcast throughout the country and with the Internet, viewed throughout the world. George W. Bush as Puerto Rico's next governor would MOTIVATE the media and everyone else who DISAPPROVES of the way things are going into ATTACKING the decades-old problems that Puerto Rico is still facing and for the most part failing at MISERABLY. From W's first day on the job, he would be blamed for everything bad that has occurred for decades -- even though up until inauguration day he had NEVER set foot on the Island. So if our next, new governor cannot be decided upon in the next few weeks or longer and if our current governor is unable to serve a few days or weeks after her one term ends because of pressing personal commitments -- I say, let's scrap the November 2nd election results all together, have a new election and choose George W. Bush for our next governor. He certainly would pass the residency requirements. I believe that Washington, D.C. is right next to Virginia. Hopefully his first criticisms will include the current, decades-old crime "wave" and he will be forced to do something big -- and ALSO finally attack the root cause of all the social problems we face. That would definitely be a great start. If you are like me and you read the 2 top newspapers in Puerto Rico every day, you will read about a current crime "wave" from time-to-time -- but I cannot recall EVER reading an article or viewing a TV news broadcast that states that any of those "waves" had ever ended. So as far as I know and am concerned, there has been only one crime "wave" for as long as I can remember -- and that "wave" began around 1985. Although I immediately considered myself a Puerto Rican as soon as I moved from Long Island to Puerto Rico permanently in 1985 -- I am definitely Puerto Rican enough today to know that -in the media- when 2 people are shot dead at the same time, it's a double-murder and when 3 or more people are shot dead at the same time, it's a massacre. Just going back to January 2004, each time there was a massacre, it was the TOP news story. After about 9 or 10 of these triple-killings this year -- so far -- these events can now very easily become the second or third TOP story, regardless of whether or not Liza "Tito" Minnelli continues to make all Italian-Americans proud of her incredible fighting skills among her other alleged "talents." If George W. Bush was in fact Puerto Rico's governor -- he and Puerto Rico would receive the same worldwide scrutiny, criticism and scathing COMMENTARY -- highlighting all the blood spilling in the streets of Puerto Rico as is throughout Iraq. Let's also come up with a different word to describe the current crime situation. "WAVE" or "OLA" suggests MOVEMENT -- I believe that when someone is dead, they don't move too much. If water terminology must be used, then let's change "WAVE" to "TSUNAMI" as it is a much more accurate description. On Tuesday I read something I think I had already known -- the fact that there are now more Puerto Ricans living in The United States than in Puerto Rico. It would be interesting to know if more Puerto Ricans are murdered in the United States or in Puerto Rico each year. I'll bet A LOT more are murdered in Puerto Rico. If true, it's proof of just one thing -- it isn't Puerto Ricans, IT'S PUERTO RICO and all the "swells" who have been in charge of it for decades. George W. Bush for governor of Puerto Rico! If for no other reason than to get EVERYONE FOCUSED on PUERTO RICO FIRST, then everywhere else -- once Puerto Rico is FIXED. The government has to crack down on the small minority of the very worst people on the Island who make life VERY DIFFICULT for the overwhelming majority of good, decent people who DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER from the people in power. There's nothing better than living in a democracy -- unless of course, you are shot to death or murdered by a drunk or careless driver. When that happens, a democracy tends to kinda suck. Well, that's all folks! Until next Friday. Keith For motivational speeches, conferences, media requests and other things such as eating disorders, you'll have to contact someone else.
